Humanitarian Crisis Worsens in Myanmar Due to Junta's Atrocities and Aid Weaponization

The humanitarian crisis in Myanmar is deteriorating primarily due to the junta's daily atrocities against civilians, rather than solely from armed clashes. The military is reportedly instilling fear through severe daily atrocities, leading to a rise in internally displaced persons (IDPs) and systematic severance of aid supply routes. Over 1,000 airstrikes have occurred in Pyin Oo Lwin District, Mandalay Region, alone since 2024, with over 70 mass casualty incidents specifically targeting schools, hospitals, and public markets, unrelated to armed clashes. The junta is also intentionally weaponizing humanitarian aid by imposing administrative restrictions, blocking deliveries at checkpoints, confiscating supplies, and arresting aid workers. Nearly 3.8 million people are displaced across Myanmar, many multiple times.
