Tens of Thousands Evacuated as Wildfires Rage Across France and Spain

Large forest fires are burning out of control in southwestern France and central Spain, leading to the evacuation of an estimated 92,000 people. Some residents in France's Cap Ferret peninsula fled by boat. The blazes, exacerbated by a heatwave with temperatures exceeding 39 degrees Celsius (102 Fahrenheit), have prompted both countries to request assistance from other European Union members, with reinforcements including firefighting aircraft being deployed.
