Russia Conducts Heavy Air Strikes on Kyiv; Ukraine Cites Air Defense Shortage

Russia launched a significant overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv, killing at least nine people and injuring 33 civilians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that only one of 27 ballistic missiles was intercepted, attributing this to a critical shortage of US Patriot air defense system interceptors. Separately, a sanctioned Russian container ship, the Yanina, sank in the Black Sea after being hit by Ukrainian drones, which Ukraine claims was supporting the war effort.
