EU proposes increased support to Morocco for border management after Ceuta migrant influx

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has proposed increasing EU support to Morocco to help prevent a recurrence of the recent mass migrant influx into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Last week, approximately 50,000 migrants attempted to enter Ceuta, causing alarm across the European Union and leading to Italy's temporary suspension of passport-free Schengen travel arrangements with Spain. The situation is being viewed as a significant test for the EU's new Migration Pact.
