Child Malnutrition Reaches Critical Levels in Afghanistan Amid Funding Shortfalls

The U.N. World Food Program (WFP) has warned that child malnutrition has reached critical levels in a third of Afghanistan's provinces and is expected to worsen due to funding shortfalls forcing cuts in food distributions and other support. WFP emphasized the urgent need to act to prevent a rise in child deaths, noting that 142 health centers closed in 2025 due to aid reductions, impacting over 13,000 children's access to nutrition treatment.
