The African Union Peace and Security Council is set to receive an update on the deepening humanitarian and security crisis in the Sahel region.

The region faces a severe humanitarian toll, with 2.8 million internally displaced persons and 11.4 million people requiring food assistance, including 2.7 million facing acute food insecurity. The update will address the resurgence of terrorist attacks by groups like JNIM and ISGS, which have resulted in numerous civilian and military casualties and left large parts of Burkina Faso outside government control.
