New EU Packaging Regulations on PFAS and Waste Reduction Take Effect

New European Union packaging regulations, formally known as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), have come into effect. These regulations introduce bloc-wide limits on PFAS 'forever chemicals' in food-contact packaging and set binding targets for cutting packaging waste by 5% by 2030, rising to 15% by 2040. The law also mandates reusable packaging thresholds and aims to make all packaging on the EU market recyclable by 2030, fostering a circular economy.
