Devastating Earthquake in Colombia Triggers EU Emergency Humanitarian Assistance

A devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Colombia on Monday, August 12, intensifying an already complex humanitarian crisis in the country. The earthquake has caused hundreds of casualties and extensive damage, with power outages and damaged infrastructure cutting off communities. In response, the European Commission is providing €2.1 million in emergency humanitarian assistance to address immediate needs. The World Food Programme (WFP) is also mobilizing support, ready to assist affected communities with food stocks and cash-based assistance, as food insecurity was already alarming in the affected regions.
