EU Mobilizes Emergency Support as Wildfires Spread Across Europe
The European Union has activated its Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) to provide emergency assistance as wildfires continue to rage across several European countries. Belgium received two rescEU firefighting planes from Sweden and helicopters from the Netherlands, Norway, and Germany to combat a blaze in Hautes Fagnes. In Spain, 104 French firefighters and vehicles are assisting in the Aragón region, where nearly 16,000 hectares have burned. The European Commission is also supporting emergency services with satellite mapping.
