UN Security Council briefed on worsening Sudan conflict and humanitarian crisis

Top UN officials are briefing the Security Council on the dire situation in war-torn Sudan, where escalating conflict, drone strikes against civilians, massive displacement, hunger, and flooding are affecting millions. Since the war erupted, 8.6 million people have fled the violence, with over 19.5 million acutely food insecure. Intensifying fighting has displaced an additional 200,000 people since late 2025, and destructive seasonal floods are exacerbating the humanitarian emergency.
