UN Warns of "Danger Zone of Extreme Weather" as IOM Appeals for $110 Million to Combat Strongest El Niño in Decades

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has issued a stark warning that the world has entered a "danger zone of extreme weather," following new data from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) indicating that the current El Niño phenomenon could be the strongest in over 70 years and persist until at least February 2027. In response, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has appealed for USD 110 million to protect 4.9 million people from the potentially severe impacts, including drought, flooding, and extreme heat, emphasizing the need for anticipatory action to reduce humanitarian needs.
