Nepal-China Flash Floods Death Toll Rises to 1,280, Over 5,620 Missing as International Aid Efforts Intensify

Devastating flash floods along the Nepal-China border have resulted in at least 1,280 confirmed deaths and more than 5,620 individuals missing as search and rescue operations enter their second week. The United Nations and humanitarian partners have launched a US$49.6 million flash appeal to provide life-saving relief to over 84,000 affected people. The European Union has also dispatched additional emergency humanitarian aid, including an air bridge flight delivering 82 tonnes of essential supplies, while the World Food Programme scales up its response to reach isolated communities. In a rare positive development, two hydropower workers were successfully rescued alive from a tunnel buried by debris. Singapore has also provided a humanitarian assistance package valued at S$560,000.
