UN Warns World Will Overshoot 1.5°C Global Heating Limit

A new report by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) warns that nations are set to fail in limiting global heating to 1.5° Celsius above preindustrial levels, a cornerstone of the Paris Climate Agreement. The report indicates that even under the most optimistic scenario, global temperatures are projected to rise by at least 1.8 degrees, leading to catastrophic consequences including intensified extreme weather, glacier melt, ecosystem loss, and sea level rise.
