Panama Canal to Reduce Shipping Traffic Due to El Niño-Induced Drought

The Panama Canal is set to significantly reduce the number of ships passing through its waterway in the coming weeks due to severe drought conditions caused by the El Niño weather phenomenon. The daily transit capacity will be lowered from the usual 40 ships to 34 for the first half of September, further decreasing to 32 ships per day by mid-month, representing a 20% reduction.
