Indonesia's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport near Jakarta was temporarily closed early Sunday, September 6, after volcanic ash from an eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau was detected in the airport area. The closure disrupted dozens of flights, stranding hundreds of passengers. The volcano, which emerged from the sea in the 1920s, has erupted periodically, including a 2018 eruption that triggered a partial collapse.
