European Commission proposes new regulation to simplify and modernize EU public procurement rules

The European Commission has adopted a proposal for a new Regulation aimed at modernizing and simplifying the EU's public procurement framework. This reform seeks to support effective investments in public services and infrastructure, aligning with the Union's policy objectives. The proposal, which consolidates existing directives into one directly-applicable regulation, is expected to create a more coherent and predictable procurement framework, reduce administrative burdens, and generate significant annual savings of €649 million. It aims to complete a Single Market for public procurement, which accounts for approximately 15% of the EU's GDP.
