BRICS Leaders Urge Peace in Middle East, UN Security Council Reform, and Enhanced Global South Voice

The 18th BRICS Summit, held in New Delhi, India, from September 12-13, 2026, concluded with leaders calling for greater efforts to prevent and peacefully resolve conflicts, particularly in the Middle East and Ukraine. The bloc also advocated for expanding the UN Security Council to boost representation from Asia, Africa, and Latin America, and for international organizations like the IMF and World Bank to give developing countries a stronger voice. India, as the chair, emphasized economic cooperation, trade, payments, energy, and global governance, pushing for increased use of local currencies in trade and strengthening manufacturing and supply chains across the Global South.
