Caritas calls for urgent international action as Middle East humanitarian crisis deepens
Caritas Australia, in conjunction with Caritas Internationalis and Caritas Middle East and North Africa, has issued a call for urgent international action to safeguard civilians, ensure humanitarian access, and alleviate suffering across the Middle East. The humanitarian crisis is particularly acute in Gaza, where the majority of the 2.1 million population remains displaced, and only approximately 40% of the necessary humanitarian funding for 2026 has been secured. Concerns are also rising over increased deaths, injuries, displacement, and movement restrictions in the West Bank, alongside ongoing bombardment in southern Lebanon and a broader escalation of military activity in the region.
