UN Chief 'Gravely Concerned' by Renewed Fighting in Northern Ethiopia, Warns of Regional Destabilization

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern over renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia and reports of Eritrean forces' presence, urging an immediate cessation of hostilities. He warned that the conflict in the Tigray, Afar, and Amhara regions risks escalating and further destabilizing the wider region. Ethiopia, in turn, informed the UN Security Council it is taking self-defense measures against Eritrea, accusing its neighbor of deploying troops and occupying parts of northern Ethiopia.
