Eggshell Waste Transformed into Stronger Magnesium Alloy Components
Researchers at North Carolina State University have devised a new method to convert discarded eggshells into materials that improve magnesium alloys. This proof-of-concept study, published in the Journal of Magnesium and Alloys, integrates finely ground eggshells into a friction stir extrusion process. The technique offers a sustainable approach by potentially reducing reliance on mined calcium, energy consumption, and manufacturing steps for calcium-based alloying materials.
